FAQs
01
Do I need a pet passport or an Animal Health Certificate?
If you’re travelling from the UK to the EU, you’ll need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC). UK-issued EU pet passports are no longer valid for travel from Great Britain.
02
How far in advance do I need to plan?
For EU travel, most pets need to wait at least 21 days after a first rabies vaccination.
For non-EU countries, planning can take weeks or months, depending on the destination.
03
Does my pet need a rabies vaccine?
Normally yes. Your pet must be microchipped first, then vaccinated against rabies. The timing is very important, and we will check this carefully.
04
Does my dog need a tapeworm treatment?
Some countries require a tapeworm treatment for dogs before returning to the UK. This must be given within a specific time window and recorded correctly. Certain EU countries require dogs to be tapewormed before leaving the UK.
05
Can I reuse an AHC for multiple trips?
No. An AHC is issued for one trip only. A new certificate is needed each time you travel.
06
What if I’m travelling outside the EU?
You will need an Export Health Certificate (EHC).
Each country has its own rules, which can include blood tests, treatments, and government endorsement.
We can export pets across the world.
07
When should I book my appointment?
We recommend getting in touch as early as possible, even if your travel date isn’t confirmed. Early planning avoids last-minute stress. Some countries require multiple ID checks.
